I quite understand, why Carlton hotel in St.Moritz has invited us in this short period of winter low season right in between Christmas with the traditional polo on ice that followed, and an epic gastro fest with the Michelin stars chiefs coming from all over the world ahead. During this events it’s just impossible to find a free room there:)
But it would be wrong to decide there is nothing to do during the low season. Except for riding, of course:) First of all, St.Moritz is a worth visiting place for the shopping fans (what you can easily notice in my video) and secondly they are turning 150 years this year, so there are always some kind of celebrations!
By the way, resort’s Birthday is a symbolic date. The fact is it’s believed that winter tourism in general was born here, so we are truly celebrating the 150 years of winter tourism! Can you imagine that previously tourists were only coming here during summer? And in 1864 local hotel owner, Mr. Badrutt, invited his guests to return in winter promising to pay travel costs if they won’t enjoy the stay. His guests were mostly British and accoding to their traditional weather they were more than sceptic about the idea. But they came! They came on Christmas and stayed till Easter.
St.Moritz today is a luxury resort in Swiss Alps, ready to impress not only with an outstanding nature (which you can enjoy while walking through one of the special walking paths), perfect tracks for different levels, crystal-clear air and the only natural bob-track in the world, but with it’s city life as well. Here you can find private clubs, become a member of which is almost impossible (if only you don’t have right friends or a good concierge in a hotel), world-famous brands shops, 8 Michelin stars in local restaurants and unbelievably cheap swiss cheeses that we all miss so much!:)
Though I wasn’t that inspired by St.Moritz as should have been (perhaps because I was already in love with the cosy and welcoming Aroza), I would never miss a chance to return here. Because only here I felt that great joy of just doing nothing in front of the fireplace after a sporty day, chatting with friends or reading fresh newspaper, while observing beautiful snow outside. Really, how beautiful the snow in St.Moritz is! It and that warm sun are my favorite type of holidays now, that I would never change for a beach.
