Christchurch is one of the biggest cities in New Zealand and the largest on the South Island. It’s home for more than 377,000 people and thousands of tourists visit Christchurch every year. Recently, we visited Christchurch to film the series of travel videos to show you the beauty of this city and its surroundings as well as to help you with planning your own trip.
We have 6 Christchurch travel videos all together covering different areas of the city itself and also some other attractions in the region. For your convenience, we list them below with short descriptions on what you can expect to see. There is also a bonus video with the best views of Christchurch and a playlist if you like watching all videos one after another. Ready to go on a virtual trip with us? Excited? We definitely are, so LET’S GO!
EPISODE 1: CITY CENTRE
In the first episode of our Christchurch Travel Video Series you can see us flying from Tauranga to Christchurch and spending the first day exploring the city centre. This vlog features some of the iconic Christchurch attractions such as the Cardboard Cathedral (which is officially called Christchurch Transitional Cathedral), Turanga Library, 185 Empty Chairs, damaged Christchurch Cathedral and also the Bridge of Remembrance.
EPISODE 2: TRAM TOUR AND BOTANIC GARDENS
Second episode in the series covers some more activities and attractions you can do in the historical city centre of Chistchurch. Get ready to see tram tour, Quake City museum, Botanic Gardens, Canterbury Museum, Floral Clock, Victoria Square, Victoria Tower and many other places around the city.
EPISODE 3: CHRISTCHURCH GONDOLA & MORE
In this video, we show you breathtaking views of New Brighton Pier, cityscapes from up top of Christchurch Gondola, amazing Sumner Beach and also the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament (also known as Christchurch Basilica) which was severely damaged in the events of earthquakes in 2010-2011.
EPISODE 4: AKAROA, DOLPHIN SAFARI
You simply can’t miss Akaroa when visiting Christchurch. Located 1,5 hour drive from city, this is one of the most unusual spots on the map of New Zealand. Not only this is the most French town in NZ with croissants, coffee, French signs and flags. This is also the place to see world’s smallest dolphins – Hector’s Dolphins. Enjoy the virtual walk around the town – there are lots of beautiful buildings and monuments to see. Watch until the end to see Akaroa Lighthouse and Newton’s Waterfall.
EPISODE 5: AIR FORCE MUSEUM
Last episode of our Christchurch Travel Video Series. In this video, we are showing you another attraction – Air Force Museum of New Zealand. This is a less-known place from a list of things to do in Christchurch but actually one of the most entertaining. Air Force Museum of New Zealand is a complex of buildings offering an amazing collection of historical items dedicated to aviation and military forces. You can come for a free guided tour and see some of the most significant models of airplanes, helicopters, cars, engines and other machines. There are also free historical exhibitions about World Wars and, of course, about New Zealand’s Air Force.
