Shimmery white sand, crystal-clear turquoise water, fresh and delicious food and lots of exciting activities – this is the Maldives. But the Maldives is not just a luxurious destination we all wish to see at least once in a lifetime (or twice, if you’re as lucky as Alex!). It’s more. It’s a dream. It’s pure joy and happiness. And of course, nothing should ruin your perfect vacation. No noisy neighbours, limited Wi-Fi or, God forbid, bad coffee. Here are Top-3 resorts in the Maldives we have checked out ourselves and can totally recommend!
But before you find out what are, in our opinion, Top-3 resorts in the Maldives, make sure you also read this article ‘Things to know before packing to the Maldives’ – it contains everything you should know about the country and its world-famous resorts to help you have the best time ever! Top-3 resorts in the Maldives
Kandolhu
Kandolhu is, hands down, the best resort in the Maldives we’ve been to! It’s a tiny island (and by ‘tiny’ we mean it literally takes 8 minutes to walk along the water around the entire island) with only 30 villas. Compare it to HUNDREDS other resorts might have – and you can imagine the level of attention and care each guest receives at Kandolhu!
They offer the largest variety of services we’ve experienced – from free GoPro in each villa to free snorkeling gear, yoga mats, beach towels, wee wine cellar in each villa, etc.
Kandolhu also has a rule of no-motors around the island, so it’s always quiet and tranquil here and you won’t be disturbed by a noisy yacht or other motor vehicle.
The nicest part is that not only the staff respect the quietness and privacy of their island, guests here are also very polite all the time. No loud partying crowds 🙂
Kandolhu Maldives in three words: posh, tranquil, exclusive
Kandolhu Maldives price per night in US Dollars: $486 – $1,742

Dhigali
Dhigali was only four months old when we’ve visited it in 2017, so it’s still one of the freshest resorts in the Maldives. And of course, you can spot the signs of it in its modern architecture and some unique services other resorts don’t have.
Dhigali is one of the most remote from Male resorts in the Maldives and there are not many other resorts around, which is amazing because seeing another hotel within an arm’s reach from your island certainly doesn’t add to that feeling of running away from the rest of the world one seeks in the Maldives vacations. Instead, there are quite a few local islands around and you can experience what it’s like to live in the Maldives full-time by booking a tour there.
It’s a very stylish resort and it has different vibe and look compared to other Maldivian hotels. It’s hard to describe in a few words but if you love modern architecture, lots of space, high ceilings and stylish wood and stone in your interiors – you’ll definitely love it here!
Dhigali Maldives in three words: remote, modern, diverse
Dhigali Maldives price per night: $277-$898 ($308-$998 in high season)

Velassaru
Velassaru has the most perfect location of all resorts in the Maldives we’ve been to – it’s not too far from the airport to make the trip even more exhausting than your international flight already was but it’s also not too close for the ‘big city smoke’ to interrupt your vacations (as it happens in Kurumba, for example, that’s only 10 min away from Male).
One thing that definitely stands out at Velassaru is its insanely cool spa – with overwater massage villas and infinity pool with uninterrupted views all the way to the horizon. Massage was something we’ve experienced at almost every single resort in the Maldives we’ve visited, yet nothing could beat the one we had here. Beyond perfection.
Of course, it’s not the only cool thing about this place 🙂 At Velassaru, we’ve enjoyed amazing and very diverse cuisines and local restaurants is still the first thing we think about when talking about Velassaru.
Velassaru Maldives in three words: warm, family-friendly, convenient
Velassaru Maldives price per night: $389 – $1,393 ($215-$770 when booking and paying in advance)
